The Galaxy Note 7 is a beefy powerhouse of a machine, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense when tons of users on XDA-Developers are reporting problems with slow typing. And not just a few seconds of lag, but full on sentences lagging behind the typist. There are a few tricks you can try to help alleviate the issue, if you’ve encountered this with your device.
1. Clear your clipboard history
The Galaxy Note 7 keeps a very robust history of everything you’ve copied and your clipboard cache may be full. The result is the lag you’re seeing on the device. Try long-pressing any text input field to bring up the clipboard button. Tap it, and then press the “Delete All” option that shows up. Confirm and now your cache is clear.
If this method doesn’t solve the problem, you can always try this one.
2. Enable developer options and check these settings
Some users on the forum are reporting that enabling developer options on their phone in order to disable all animations and force GPU rendering have resulted in the lag clearing up immediately. Here’s how to do that should you want to try for yourself.
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Scroll down until you find General Management and tap on it.
- Tap the option that displays your Build Number seven times.
- You should see a small notification appear that says, “Developer mode has been enabled.”
- Go back to the Settings menu and find the new option entitled Developer Options and tap it.
- You should see two options labeled Disable All Animations and Force GPU Rendering. Check both of these and reboot to see if your phone is now lag-free.
3. Use a different keyboard than the default Samsung keyboard
Users on the XDA forums are reporting that it seems like the Samsung stock keyboard is the only one experiencing input lag on the device. If you’re not fond of the stock keyboard, there are numerous others you can download from the Google Play Store and use on your phone, including Google’s stock Android keyboard.
Some users are reporting experiencing the lag on other keyboards like Google’s Keyboard, while others like Chrooma are free from the input lag.
