With all the new phones and fancy speakers, it’s easy to overlook the new Chromecast Ultra. Arguably Google’s most successful piece of hardware, the Chromecast was due for an update too. As you might expect, the new Chromecast is all about 4K, the latest and greatest in picture quality. It can stream 4K content from YouTube, Netflix, and Vudu at launch. Google Play Movies support is coming later.
The Ultra is also much faster than the previous Chromecast models. Improved WiFi connectivity has made loading videos 1.8 times faster. You can even plug in an Ethernet cable with the new Chromecast Ultra. The design of the Ultra is roughly the same as the previous Chromecast, but now it has the new Google “G” logo. If you buy a Google Home, the Ultra will work side-by-side with it. You can cast things by speaking to Google Assistant. Ultra will cost $69 when it is released in November.
