You can now unlock the Verizon Pixel’s bootloader and root your device

Fans of rooting devices were a bit put off when it was announced that the bootloaders on the Verizon Pixel and Pixel XL would be locked. This obviously causes issues for those “hackers” that find exploits which enable us to root our devices.

Luckily, there is a new tool available to download which will unlock the Pixel and Pixel XL. This tool, named “dePixel8”, is completely free and will completely unlock the bootloader for either device after following the necessary steps.

All of this is necessary for owners of the Pixel and Pixel XL to be able to root their devices as the first root tool has been released. Chainfire, of SuperSU fame, has been working tirelessly on rooting the Pixel and has been keeping everyone in the loop as to the process.

There were some issues at first, but those were quickly overcome and now the Systemless root tool has been released. In addition to finalizing and releasing the new tool, Chainfire also updated SuperSU to be compatible with devices running Android 7.1 Nougat and Pixel devices. If you want to learn more about everything that went into the process of finding a root method, you can check out Chainfire’s post on Google+.

As always, if you are looking to root your devices, proceed with caution and be sure to follow the instructions precisely. There are some bugs and quirks that are accompanying the new root process. However, if you’re willing to take the plunge, you can do so from the links found below.

There is one thing of note for those looking to take advantage of the new root tool. dePixel8 will stop working on devices once Google releases the November Android security updates. So if you want to root your new Pixel or Pixel XL and are on Verizon, you might want to move quickly as we get closer to the start of November.
