Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 may launch on the Snapdragon 830
Despite murmurings that Google is banning proprietary fast charging technologies for future Android devices, Qualcomm doesn’t seem keen on slowing down their own efforts. A new rumor suggests Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 is right around the corner.
Said to be the standard for Qualcomm chipsets starting with the Snapdragon 830, it’s suggested Quick Charge 4.0 will support charging speeds up to 28W. For comparison’s sake, Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0 supported max charging rates of 18W. Qualcomm will also supposedly introduce a new voltage system called INOV, short for Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage.

We imagine it will simply refine the work Qualcomm’s already done on smart charging, which reads things like battery temperature and cable compatibility to determine how much power to dish out to the battery at any given moment. This cuts down on overheating to ensure you have no functional problems or worse — exploding battery issues — on your phone.
Unfortunately, it’s tough to say how fast this technology could charge a battery without further details on how it operates. The source suggests voltage configurations of anywhere between 5V/4.7A~5.6A and 9V/4A charging configurations. It shouldn’t take too long to get those details, though, as Qualcomm supposedly has the first Snapdragon 830 device launching in Q1 2017.
