Here’s our first look at the 2017 Moto X

Last week, rumors began circulating which suggested that Lenovo would no longer use its own name for future smartphones in favor of using the “Moto” branding. This is likely due to brand awareness and creating a more unified lineup of devices for the future. One such device that has been asked about countless times is the Moto X.

When the Moto X was released in 2013, it ushered in a wave of affordable smartphones that didn’t feature a ton of bloatware, and minus the Active Display capabilities, was mainly stock Android. The Moto X continued to grow in popularity until the device was seemingly cut from the lineup this year. A new rumor has suggested that Lenovo will be bringing back the Moto X in 2017, and there is a new image showing off what the device may look like.

The first obvious change is the new camera module which was introduced alongside the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, and Moto Z Play. The round camera hump will make its return, and we assume that the flat tire flash will be there as well. There’s no extra branding other than the subtle Motorola logo in the center. Finally, it seems that the Moto X will feature an all-metal design, keeping with the trend of the premium-feeling Moto Z lineup.

Due to the sheer number of devices Lenovo is reportedly planning to ship in 2017, there’s no telling when we’ll see the Moto X. Regardless, it’s always good to see a friendly face, and as someone who loved the Moto X lineup, I’m hoping that Lenovo does it right and packs a punch with the next Moto X.
