Qualcomm announces Quick Charge 4 with USB Type-C support

Qualcomm has announced the next version of their massively popular Quick Charge technology. The Snapdragon 835 will be the first processor with Quick Charge 4. Qualcomm has shared a few details about this latest version.

As you would expect, Quick Charge 4 improves on charging time and compatibility with more devices, cables, and chargers. The headlining feature is the ability to get 5 hours of use from just 5 minutes of charging. That’s 20% faster than Quick Charge 3. Another big improvement over version 3 is full support for USB Type-C and Google’s specifications for Type-C charging.

This is all very good news for users. USB Type-C fast charging is sort of a mess right now. The Snapdragon 835 should provide some big improvements. No word on what device will ship with the Snapdragon 835 first. We would expect to see devices early next year.
