Levi’s Commuter Jacket with Project Jacquard will cost $350 this Fall

Google and Levi’s had more news to share about the Levi’s Commuter Jacket at South By Southwest, with the news being that it’d arrive this fall for $350.

That’s a bit steep for a jacket, but if you have been following along you know it’s not just a jacket. The Commuter makes use of Project Jacquard technology to enable a conductive fabric which makes it possible to input gestures for your phone.

This fabric — totally washable, by the way, so long as you remove the Bluetooth clip beforehand — receives the gesture and transmits it to your phone over Bluetooth to perform some sort of action. For instance, you could swipe left and right on the jacket sleeve to skip between music tracks, or perhaps even make a circle gesture to be told the time in your headphones. Your jacket will last for 2 days on a charge, too.

It all sounds great if only a little expensive and contingent on whether you still have a strong taste for denim jackets. If that sounds like you, be on the lookout for it later this year.
