One of the best things about owning a Pixel or Nexus device is that you get updates directly from Google. However, nothing last forever. Even Pixel devices will stop getting updates someday. When exactly will that be? Google released a handy chart.
According to a new support page, Google has announced when Pixel and Nexus devices will stop receiving security and version updates. Essentially, phones will continue to receive security updates for one year after they stop receiving version updates. Here’s what that looks like for the Pixel and Pixel XL.
Phone | No guaranteed Android version updates after | No guaranteed security updates after |
---|---|---|
Pixel XL |
October 2018 |
October 2019 |
Pixel |
October 2018 |
October 2019 |
Google also updated the chart for old Nexus devices. The Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 have already reached end of life. Here’s the schedule for the remaining Nexus devices.
Device | No guaranteed Android version updates after | No guaranteed security updates after |
---|---|---|
Nexus 6P |
September 2017 |

The Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are the next devices to go. They have already stopped getting version updates and this fall it will get its last security update. It also looks like the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will stop getting version updates after Android O.
