Samsung’s Tizen is now more popular than Android Wear

0

Back in 2015, Samsung decided to make the move to ditch Android Wear and continue its focus on smartwatches powered by its own Tizen OS. The moved has seemingly paid off as a new report shows that Tizen has now surpassed Android Wear in smartwatch OS market share across the world in Q1 2017.

The report isn’t all that surprising considering the fact that many OEMs abstained from releasing updated smartwatches over the course of 2016. However, with the launch of Android Wear 2.0 in recent months, we could see another shift in the spectrum.

As seen in the chart above, Tizen has moved up to 19% of the total market share, just 1% ahead of Google’s Android Wear. However, both Tizen and Android Wear are dwarfed by the Apple Watch, which holds 57% of the total market share across the world.

With the Samsung Gear S3 lineup recently launched, Samsung is looking to continue its push to eat into some of the market owned by Apple. Considering that the Gear S3 works with both Android and iOS, this could definitely help Samsung in its efforts.

Let us know what you think about these results and if you think Android Wear has a real chance to overtake Tizen in the future, or if its market share will continue to shrink.
