At Google I/O 2017, Google confirmed that the ASUS ZenFone AR would finally launch sometime this Summer. The device was initially announced back in November of last year, then shown off again at CES 2017, and will be the first to include Tango and Daydream capabilities.
However, we were still wondering as to a more specific timeframe for the ZenFone AR to launch, and thanks to the folks at Engadget, we now know. In an interview with ASUS CEO Jerry Shen, it was revealed that the ZenFone AR will launch in ASUS’ home country of Taiwan in “mid-June” with a US launch to follow “as soon as end of June or early July.”
The ZenFone AR was on display at Google I/O and we were able to get some hands-on time with the upcoming device. It definitely seems to be a very promising device, especially with the fact that Verizon will be carrying the ZenFone AR.
This is a huge move for Google as the company looks to push further into the AR and VR world, and the ZenFone AR may be the perfect device to do so. As a quick refresher, the ZenFone AR is packed with a 5.7-inch QHD display, while being powered by the Snapdragon 821 SoC and either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Unfortunately, pricing has yet to be revealed.
