2017 is looking to be Motorola (Lenovo’s) busiest year yet. With so many handsets launching across the world, it’s getting hard to keep up. One might think Motorola doesn’t even know what consumers want, so instead of building a phone for everybody, they’re building everybody a phone.
The latest smartphone getting thrown against the wall is this year’s Moto X4 (aka Moto X 4th Gen, aka Moto X 2017). The phone has been leaked enough times for us to know that it exists, but you may want to leave any previously conceived notions about the Moto X line at the door. The Moto X4 is completely different.
Gone are the days when the X line stood for customization or personalization. It’s now being replaced by a cold, sterile, all glass smartphone with relatively modest specs. It’s a pseudo mid-range device, offset by a premium body, dual-cameras, and water resistance. This leaked render is giving us a look at two colors — Sterling Blue and Super Black — along with some hardware specs:
Availability and price are still up in the air but it’s being said the Moto X4 will launch in Q4 of this year which means it’ll be going up against some pretty stiff competition. Even if you don’t consider higher-end devices like the Galaxy Note 8 or Google Pixel 2, there’s still plenty of other choices from Moto’s own smartphones like the Moto Z2 Play and Moto G5S Plus. It’ll be interesting to see where Motorola places the phone in terms of pricing. Anyone like what they see so far on the Moto X4?
