Over the last month or so, we have been learning more and more information about the Huawei Mate 10, starting with the initial rumors of an October launch. Those initial rumors also claimed that the Mate 10 would see a design shake-up, bringing a bezel-less display along for the ride.
Since then, Huawei has been teasing those looking forward to the Mate 10, including a statement from the company’s chief of the consumer division, Richard Yu. In an interview, Yu claimed that the Mate 10 will “trump the iPhone in many aspects”, while also confirming new features such as a bigger battery and a “full-screen display”.
Now, we are getting our first good look at the Mate 10, as the device has been leaked in some new renders. The first render gives us a look at both the front and back of the device, featuring a display very similar to the Galaxy S8 lineup. In fact, it almost looks as the Galaxy S8’s Infinity Display was simply flattened out for the Mate 10.
Furthermore, it seems that there won’t be many curves found on the Mate 10, as these renders portray more of a “boxy” design (think iPhone SE). This is corroborated when you look at some of the other renders, which show a flat back and a metal band going around the edge of the Mate 10.
On the render above, you can see a button on the right-hand side of the device, which could be for an array of functions. Our bet would be on the button being used for the camera, but it’s possible that we could even see something similar to the Bixby button make its way to the Mate 10.
As you would expect, the Mate 10 will see the return of a dual-camera setup, with the lenses placed horizontally, and Leica branding making its return. Below the camera module, will be the good ole’ fingerprint scanner, which is placed perfectly in the center of the Mate 10.
When it comes to specific specs, the Mate 10 is expected to include a 6.1-inch QHD AMOLED display, with a 486 PPI panel. Powering the Mate 10 will be Huawei’s Kirin 970 which has recently been leaked as to have been entering mass production as Huawei gears up for the launch of the device.
Paired with the Kirin 970 SoC, it’s likely that the Mate 10 will include at least 6GB of RAM, along with 64GB of base storage. You will also be able to expand your storage via a microSD card, with support of up to 256GB.
Finally, it seems that Huawei is planning on packing a 4,000mAh battery into the Mate 10, which would definitely be a welcome addition. This is especially important after other 2017 flagships have left a sour taste in our mouths with subpar battery life.
Let us know what you think about these renders and if you’re interested to see what Huawei has been working on. We’re hoping that Huawei knocks this one out of the park and makes the Mate 10 easily available here in the States.
