Google Home is getting even smarter today. A long-awaited feature is being rolled out soon to the Google Home speaker. Users will be able to make voice calls in the US and Canada through Google Home. The catch: you can’t call another Google Home or answer calls with it.
As you would expect, voice calling works over WiFi. It doesn’t use your phone at all. That sounds cool, but it brings up some problems. If you’re not a Google Voice or Project Fi users, the people you’re calling will see “unknown” or “no caller ID.” Good luck getting anyone to answer those calls.
Google says they will have a better solution for those people by the end of the year. The update will start arriving in the coming days.
