OnePlus 5T Battery: 0 to 100 in 4,620 Seconds

The OnePlus 5T features a pretty nicely sized 3,300mAh battery. It’s not the biggest battery we’ve seen in an Android device, but it matches rival devices like the Galaxy Note 8’s 3,300mAh battery. The OnePlus 5T features the company’s proprietary Dash Charge technology, something OnePlus says is capable of delivering “a day’s power in half an hour.” What does that translate to in the real world and how does it compare against competing technologies like Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging?

I ran the battery down to 0% and closely monitored how long it would take to fully charge the OnePlus 5T. For this test, I used the stock USB-A to USB-C cable that came in the box, along with the stock charger. The results? Just like we saw with the OnePlus 5, the 5T was able to fully charge in a blistering 77 min (or 4,620 seconds). For a more detailed breakdown, check out the results down below.

OnePlus 5T Charging Time

Total: 1 hour, 17 min

It’s certainly worth mentioning that full charge times typically aren’t too different between devices. That’s just the way fast charging works. What you want to pay attention to is how quickly the phone hits 50% – 75%. After that is where charging speeds are throttled and you usually see a dip in charging speeds to preserve battery health.

By comparison, the exact same sized 3,300mAh battery on the OnePlus 5 charged to 60% in only 30 minutes (only a hair faster than the 5T) while the Galaxy Note 8’s 3,300mAh battery took 1 hour and 47 min to fully charge (40 min to hit 50%), and the Pixel 2 XL took an entire 2 hours and 43 min (almost an hour to hit 50%). So the OnePlus 5T not only hits 50%-75% faster than the competition, but can fully charge in the shortest time possible as well.

Fast charging speeds are more of an added benefit when it comes to Android devices and while a slow charging device can be an inconvenience, it’s rarely a deal breaker.
