Kotlin could overtake Java as the predominate programming language on Android next year
Back in May, Google endorsed Kotlin for Android development. Java has been the predominant programming language for Android, accounting for around 95% of all apps. Kotlin only had. 5% back in September 2016. A year later, that number has risen to around 15%.
Based on the current projections, Kotlin could overtake Java by the end of 2018. It’s clear that Android developers are switching to the more modern language. Many feel it’s easier to understand, easier to write, and has been designed more for mobile devices. What does this mean for consumers? Not much, but it’s always good when developers get better tools.
