With the launch of the OnePlus 5T and its Face Unlock feature to rival that of the iPhone X, OnePlus 5 owners have patiently been hoping this feature would arrive on their handsets. Carl Pei teased that the Face Unlock feature from the OnePlus 5T could come to the older phone on Twitter and today appears to be the day for those who aren’t afraid of using beta builds.
OnePlus has posted the Open Beta 3 update on the official OnePlus website, with the update clocking in at just under 1.6GB. The primary new features in this update are the aforementioned Face Unlock feature, as well as fixes for 5G WiFi connection issues and some more optimizations for the vibration of the phone. The new update’s security patch level has also been bumped up to December.
If you want to try out this latest open beta build on your OnePlus 5, you can download the update here. You’ll probably want to be using a non-rooted phone that’s running original OxygenOS, too. For those who prefer to wait for an official OTA update, you’ll have to hang tight while more adventurous users test the update so it can move to stable channels.
