It’s hard to make heads or tails of Google’s messaging services these days. With Android Messages, Hangouts, and Allo, it’s getting a little hard to keep up and even harder to figure out a reason to use them over the competition. People have already begun placing their bets on which service Google will shut down first, with most of the chips falling on Allo.
Now, we’re not sure if this is a sign of troubles within the Allo team but when the guy leading the product jumps ship, people take notice. Former head of product for Allo/Duo/Hangouts announced yesterday that he’s leaving Google for brighter pastures at Facebook. Here’s the tweet:
The last 7.5 years have been nothing short of amazing at Google. It was a privilege to help build Allo, Duo & Hangouts. Thanks to my amazing teammates who made the journey something I will cherish forever.

Exactly what Fulay will be doing at Facebook remains to be seen but we wish him the best of luck. While it’s true that a simple job move isn’t always a sign of troubles within a company, it doesn’t exactly look good for Allo which has been struggling to gain headway against the likes of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and the like.
