Samsung will open pre-orders for the Galaxy S9 on March 2nd in South Korea

As the days fly by, we are getting closer and closer to the launch of the Galaxy S9, which Samsung is expected to do at an event during MWC 2018 next month in Barcelona. That means we are beginning to see more and more information revealed about the device, and the latest piece of information may give us an idea as to when the device may go on sale.

This latest report suggests that Samsung will open pre-orders of the Galaxy S9 lineup on March 2nd in the company’s home country of South Korea. The pre-order time period will last until March 8th, when the device will likely go on sale everywhere in the country.

While specific pricing for either the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus were not mentioned, the report does state that these devices will be “slightly more expensive” than the Galaxy S8. For reference, the Galaxy S8 was priced at $875 when the device launched, meaning we could see a price hike to above $900 for the S9 lineup.

One reason for the higher pricing in Samsung’s latest device could come with costs associated with the new camera system that has been rumored to be implemented. This new camera system is said to feature a sensor capable of shooting “super slow-mo” videos, and the primary rear-camera will feature a “variable aperture” which will switch between f/2.4 and f/1.5 – a first for smartphones.

The countdown to Samsung’s event has already begun as the company confirmed the device will be announced on February 25th during an Unpacked event at MWC 2018.
