Samsung 2019 TV lineup can be controlled by Google Assistant and Alexa

0

Smart homes are getting smarter every year, with more and more devices supporting commands from our favorite voice assistants. While there are products that support one but not the other, most devices thankfully seem to support both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Samsung is the latest to hop on the train, announcing that new 2019 smart TVs will support both voice assistants for things like turning the device on and off, changing volume, and more.

Unfortunately, the TVs won’t feature the assistants built in. Only commands from devices like a Google Home will work. Instead, Samsung is opting for Bixby 2.0, a new and improved version of the companies own voice assistant. Many of us would prefer Google Assistant or Alexa, but Samsung is pushing Bixby across all of its devices.

This functionality may even come to 2018 models via software update, though this isn’t set in stone. We look forward to a slightly smarter TV watching experience.
