Fortnite Battle Royale update enables 60Hz support for select Android phones

When it comes to gaming, naturally things like gameplay and story plays a big role in what makes it great. There are other factors that can also help make a game more enjoyable, such as how good the game looks and how smooth it plays which is usually determined by your hardware. At the same time this is moot if you have great hardware but the game itself does not take full advantage of it.

For Android gamers who feel that Fortnite on their phones could stand to look smoother, you will be pleased to learn that 60Hz gameplay is now being brought onto select Android handsets. This is according to the patch notes in the latest update to Fortnite (version 7.30) where handsets like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (USA variant), the Honor View 20, and the Huawei Mate 20 X will now support Fortnite at 60Hz. This feature can be enabled via the settings in the game. According to Epic:

“We are rolling out 60Hz support (to be enabled in settings) on select Android devices. We have been working with our partners on optimizations and are rolling this out initially on the following specific models.”

Epic had previously suggested that it could take a while before this could be enabled for Android devices, but it looks like things have kicked off already. Granted three handsets isn’t exactly considered a wide selection, but we suppose it’s a start. In addition to enabling 60Hz for select Android handsets, Epic also announced that the update will bring support for mobile controllers.

This means that if you’d rather use an external gamepad instead of the on-screen controls, you should be able to do so. Epic has listed devices like the Steelseries Stratus XL, Gamevice, XBox1, Razer Raiju, and Moto Gamepad as some of the compatible models.
