The Essential Phone was launched in 2017 to a lot of hype. This is because the company behind the phone, Essential, was founded by Andy Rubin who many Android fans and users probably recognize as being the co-founder of Android and also a former executive at Google.
Unfortunately the Essential Phone never quite took due to a variety of reasons, but it looks like the company is ready to try again. In a post on Slashgear, the publication shared what appears to be a set of drawings that allegedly depict the Essential Phone 2, suggesting that the company could be working on it.
Details such as specs are nonexistent at this point in time, but assuming that this will be a flagship phone, chances are we can probably expect the usual flagship specs like the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, dual or triple camera setups, and the works. In addition to the post on Slashgear, there is also a post on Reddit where Vodafone’s self-care portal has revealed the existence of the Essential Phone 2.
Some say that it might be a typo, which is possible given how close “1” is to “2” on the keyboard, but at the same time given that it has been more than a year since the first Essential Phone, it does seem like the time is ripe for a successor. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have additional details to share in the coming weeks or months. In the meantime is anyone excited at the possibility of an Essential Phone 2?
