Samsung launched the S10, S10+, and S10e alongside the Galaxy Fold at its Unpacked event but wasn’t finished. The company has launched another version of the Galaxy S10 dedicated to supporting 5G.
The Galaxy S10 5G features a massive 6.7-inch screen (compared to the 6.4-inches on the S10+) and a similar design to the rest of the S10 series. It also sees the biggest battery ever fitted to a Galaxy device at 4500mAh, which it will probably need to power that 5G connection. Samsung says the S10 5G supports 25W Super Fast Charging, as well as the reverse wireless charging found on the S10 and S10+.
The S10 5G offers 256GB of internal storage with 8GB of RAM but omits the expandable storage, and there’s no upgrade option to 12GB of RAM.
Samsung says the S10 5G “can download a full season of a TV show in minutes, play graphics-rich cloud games with virtually no lag, enjoy enhanced VR and AR experiences and stay in touch with friends and family via real-time 4K video calls.” Aside from the biggest selling point of the device, which is obviously 5G connectivity, the S10 5G adds a 3D depth camera on the front and back that boosts the AR performance and offers a “Video Live Focus” and “Quick Measure” feature.
The device will launch on Verizon Wireless as an exclusive offering but will expand to other carriers in the few weeks after launch. There’s no pricing or availability information yet available for the Galaxy S10 5G but will go on sale sometime in the first half of 2019. You’ll need to be in a 5G area to take advantage of the faster speeds; otherwise, you’ll be better off buying the regular S10.
