Samsung Galaxy S10+ versus Google Pixel 3: camera comparison

0

As we saw in our Samsung Galaxy S10+ review, Samsung’s new smartphone offers an incredible experience with really good cameras. But the one question that most people have is if the five cameras that Samsung has strapped onto the S10+ are better than the three cameras featured on the Google Pixel 3 from last year. If we were simply here to compare specifications, Samsung’s new phone would definitely beat out the Pixel 3, but photo and video quality aren’t always determined by specs alone.

Pixel 3 & Galaxy S10+ camera specs

As mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ features a total of five cameras: two on the front and three on the back. The three-sensor array on the back is comprised of two 12MP sensors paired with an f/1.5-2.4, 26mm and f/2.4, 52mm lenses and a 16MP sensor with a 12mm, f/2.2 ultra-wide lens. This is a new feature for Samsung, but one that LG has had for a few years now. Up front, the two cameras consist of a 10 MP, f/1.9, 26mm main sensor and lens setup and a 8 MP, f/2.2, 22mm depth sensor.

One the Pixel 3 side, the phone features a 12.2MP camera sensor on the back with a f/1.8, 28mm lens with PDAF, OIS and EIS. The front-facing camera actually has two 8MP sensors, one with an f/1.8, 28mm and the second one featuring an f/2.2, 19mm ultra-wide lens which allows you to fit more people in the shot or more of the background in your selfies.

The video above includes side-by-side photo and video samples from the Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the Pixel 3 which will give you a good look at how the cameras on these two phone compare. The images shown in the video are also included below if you want to take a closer look. Those of the left are from the Galaxy S10+ while those on the right are from the Pixel 3.
