When it comes to 5G smartphones, there aren’t that many options to choose from at the moment. This means that for early adopters, there are but a handful of phones that they can buy if they want 5G. The OnePlus 7 Pro is one of them and it could be very well worth your consideration.
This is because according to recent 5G speed tests, the OnePlus 7 Pro appears to be the fastest 5G smartphone that you can buy today. This is based on speed tests conducted by Rootmetrics in which the handset managed to achieve nearly 700Mbps download speeds on EE, the UK’s first 5G network.
Other phones taking part in the test include the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, the LG V50, and the Oppo Reno 5G, all of which achieved download speeds of 548.45Mbps, 598.44Mbps, and 592.01Mbps respectively, putting the OnePlus 7 Pro well ahead of the competition. We should note that speeds can vary depending on network congestion and signal strength, so that’s something to take into consideration as well.
This means that it is possible that on another network, we could be looking at different numbers. OnePlus attributes the speed to the design of the 5G antenna, which they believe played an important role. In a statement made to TechRadar, a OnePlus spokesperson said:
“With the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G we redesigned the 5G antenna, adopted a totally different internal design using a stacked PCB to allow for the additional 5G hardware, and added an expanded cooling system.”
