The Samsung Galaxy Fold has yet to be officially released but it seems that there are already talks about a possible Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. This is thanks to recently discovered patents by the folks at LetsGoDigital in which they have unearthed some interesting patents that could hint at what the Galaxy Fold 2 could look like.
For those unfamiliar, the current iteration of the Galaxy Fold involves a phone that folds outwards, similar to a book. The patent that LetsGoDigital found suggests that Samsung might take a different approach with the Galaxy Fold 2, where it will fold upwards/downwards like a flip phone.
If this sounds familiar, it is because, in the past, Motorola has filed patents for what its foldable phone could look like, where it seems that it will borrow some ideas from the Motorola Razr feature phone and mimic a flip phone design. This also seems to be the approach that Samsung is going for, at least based on the patent.
We imagine that the launch of the Galaxy Fold 2 will probably depend on the success of the Galaxy Fold and how the market reacts to it, so there is no guarantee that this device will ever see the light of day, so maybe take it with a grain of salt for now. In the meantime, Motorola is also expected to launch their own foldable smartphone later this year with an estimated price of $1,500.
