Mid-range Motorola One Zoom offers flagship quad-camera experience on a budget

The Motorola One Zoom has finally landed. The phone was announced today at IFA in Berlin, featuring a quad-camera setup which should give most flagship smartphones a run for their money.

The Cameras

The four cameras include a main 48MP sensor with OIS and an f/1.7 lens, an 8MP sensor with 3x zoom, a 5MP depth sensor for those buttery bouquet shots and finally a 16MP 117-degree ultra-wide angle sensor and lens combo. Lenovo is also throwing in some AI camera goodness to deliver Night Vision shots which are dramatically brighter and the software will also recognize a variety of different scenes and adjust automatically or recommend different settings to optimize the images you are taking.

Other Specs

The other specs on the phone are a fix of components you’d see on mid-range and flagship devices. The phone has a 6.4-inch OLED 2,340 x 1,080 display with an in-screen fingerprint sensor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a MicroSD card slot all running on Android 9.

Despite the name, the Motorola One Zoom is not an Android One device, so you will find more Motorola specific software customizations that you would on the company’s Android One lineup. This also means that software updates to newer versions of Android will likely lag a bit as will. The good news is that the Motorola batwing logo on the back of the phone will feature custom lighting which will flash based on different notifications you receive. A nice touch which other companies should replicate.

Pricing & Availability

The Motorola One Zoom will be making its way to the US and a handful of markets in Europ and Latin America. The starting price of the phone will be $450 and should have no issues working with AT&T and T-Mobile’s 4G networks in the US. The company has not announced any partnerships with service providers in the US or Europe at this point.
