When I stopped past the LG booth i didn’t think I’d leave with my head spinning. I arrived with an open mind for the LG G8x ThinQ – Yes that is actually what they called it.
The booth was bustling, colourful and there was at least 3 real life Google assistants per square foot ready to erm assist. I wrestled my way to the demo area where they have a display wall of “dual screen” devices a seizure inducing spinning wall and a how to take a great selfie tutorial section. Very cool at first glance but what actually is it all about?
Well let’s start with the dual screens, it’s an accessory. A phone case with a built in screen and a headphone jack, that is actually functional and it comes bundled with the phone – this contributes to a slightly higher price tag but In my view not a bad compromise. I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to folding screens, dual displays and the like I tend to wrinkle my nose and move on but the more I used this “dual screen” setup the more it just became to feel like a genius natural evolution that is completely optional at the end of it all. If you don’t need it just take it off leave it at home or stick it in your bag.
The phone coupled with the case, powered and controlled via the USB C port make for quick a chunky piece of kit in your hand but it feels pretty rugged. I did notice considerable heat being generated under load as I took photos, played with the UI and transferred flies via Bluetooth.
All the LG representatives at the booth were super helpful and on hand to answer any questions like my very basic “So can it just be a detachable virtual keyboard?” of the course the answer was yes, but that would make life on the road so much easier. I can imagine not having to take my 8 year old laptop with me everywhere and i love it!

Expected in Q4 2019 the LG G8x ThinQ the price is still to be announced. The following info for those of you who can’t live without the nitty gritty.
The LG G8X ThinQ comes with Android 9, with LG’s brand new UX 9.0 lighter, brighter and generally more accessible than the company’s previous offering. Of course there’s a Dark Mode too.
Apps loaded quickly, as you’d expect considering the LG G8X ThinQ has Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset under the hood, paired with 6GB of RAM. Lining it up with the likes of the Sony Xperia 1 and V50 ThinQ.
A very respectable 128GB of storage in 2019, lots of space for your apps, games, pet photos and more, and there’s a welcome addition of a MicroSD card slot for further expansion.
There is a very decently sized 4,000mAh battery in the G8X ThinQ, and it supports both fast charging and wireless charging, ensuring charging is quick and hassle-free.
We will have a full camera review with sample images coming in the next few days. You’ll find that link HERE when it’s available.
The LG G8x ThinQ is a hit for me at this point, when i didn’t think it would even turn my head. What do you think?
