With the Samsung Galaxy Fold already being released, it’s now up to Huawei to prove if they have what it takes to take Samsung on and to further convince us that foldable phones are here to stay. Unfortunately, there is no word on when the Huawei Mate X will be released, but in the meantime, a recent unboxing video has found its way online.
This seems to suggest that the phone could be close to launching for real, and it also gives us an idea of what we can expect from it. While the video doesn’t show the phone being turned off, it gives us a glimpse into the packaging where it appears that Huawei will be bundling a special carrying case for the phone.
This is because unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold, where the foldable display folds inwards, the Mate X’s display folds outwards, meaning that it is more vulnerable to being damaged. Giving users a special carrying case should help with that, although we think it might be a bit troublesome having to take the phone in and out all the time.
Huawei has yet to confirm when the device will be launched. Following reports of build and integrity issues with the Galaxy Fold, Huawei also decided to delay the release of their phone to address potential problems, but they haven’t mentioned when it will be ready. Also, unlike the Galaxy Fold, Huawei’s Mate X will be a lot more expensive so it seems that Huawei really needs to get it right.
