LG, ZTE are passing on MWC 2020 due to coronavirus

MWC 2020 will be taking place later this month. The event will be the perfect opportunity for companies to show off what they have in the works, new mobile products, solutions, and technology. Unfortunately, if you were looking forward to either LG or ZTE making an announcement this year, you’d be out of luck.

Both companies have confirmed that due to the coronavirus outbreak that has been making its way around the world, they will not be making an appearance at this year’s MWC. ZTE was quoted as saying:

“With the safety of its employees and general public foremost in mind, LG has decided to withdraw from exhibiting and participating in MWC 2020 later this month in Barcelona, Spain. This decision will prevent needlessly exposing hundreds of LG employees to international travel, which most health experts have advised.”

As for LG, the company noted that they will “be holding separate events in the near future to announce its 2020 mobile products.” Had this not been the case, many would have expected LG to announce the successor to last year’s LG G8 ThinQ in the form of the LG G9 ThinQ.

Instead, we’ll now have to wait for LG to announce its own event in which the phone will most likely be announced then. We’re not sure if other companies will be pulling out of MWC 2020, but for now it seems that it is just LG and ZTE.
