Samsung’s Exynos chipset does poorly in battery test

Recently, there has been some controversy surrounding Samsung’s use of the Exynos chipsets in their smartphones. This is because according to benchmarks and user reports, it seems that the Exynos chipsets simply quite aren’t as powerful compared to the Snapdragon variants.

Given that customers pay the same price for the phones, we get why some might be upset. Unfortunately, if there was ever a case for Samsung to stop using its Exynos chipset, a recent battery test conducted by PhoneBuff has revealed that the Exynos chipsets simply aren’t as efficient compared to the Snapdragon.

The battery test pits two Samsung Galaxy S20+ models against each other, where one model is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, and the other powered by the Exynos 990 chipset. Right off the bat, the Exynos quickly falls behind the Snapdragon and is constantly at a lower percentage throughout the test.

This difference in percentage is widened during standby, where the Exynos chipset caused the phone to drain more battery compared to the Snapdragon. It also seems that when it comes to handling video games, the Exynos pales in comparison to the Snapdragon in terms of battery life.

The Exynos version of the Galaxy S20+ was the first to hit 0% while the Snapdragon model remained alive at 11%. Now, we should point out that your mileage may vary depending on how you use your phone, but at the same time, the difference in battery and performance between the two models simply cannot be ignored.
