OnePlus used to be a company that was associated with affordable smartphones, where the specs of their phones would be almost comparable to higher-end flagships, except on the price front. This has allowed the company to quickly gain a massive following, although in recent years, the price of the company’s handsets have only been going up.
In a post on the OnePlus forums by the company’s CEO, Pete Lau, he has confirmed and announced that they will be launching a new affordable smartphone lineup soon. Lau does not dive into the details of the device that they are planning, but he does note that it will only be available in Europe and India at the start, but there are plans to eventually expand its availability to North America and other parts of the world.
According to Lau:
“Never Settle has always been at the core of OnePlus. For more than 6 years, that has meant working hard to always deliver the best experience for flagship smartphone users. However, as we’ve grown together with our community, we know that there are many people who want a really solid smartphone that meets their everyday needs, and for a more accessible price.”
That being said, the phone in question could very well be the OnePlus Z. We have been hearing about the phone for a while now and last we checked, it was tipped for a launch in July. Specs-wise, the phone doesn’t seem to be particularly impressive, but we suppose that’s kind of the point, where it will most likely be aimed at customers who prioritize price over performance.
The phone is rumored to be priced at around $330, but take this with a grain of salt and hopefully OnePlus will have more official details to share soon.
