Huawei is expected to launch its second flagship phone of 2020 later this year in the form of the Huawei Mate 40 series. Now thanks to a leaked render shared by @OnLeaks and published by HandsetExpert, we might have an idea of what the upcoming handset could look like.
For starters, based on the render, it looks like Huawei will be maintaining the same camera design found on the Mate 30 series. This comes in the form of a circular array of the four different lenses that Huawei will be using with the phone. Even the flash module looks to be similar to its predecessor.
One of the main changes is that Huawei will be ditching the notch with the Mate 40 and will instead opt for a hole-punch cutout to the top left corner of the display where it seems that it will house dual front-facing cameras. Apart from that, it seems that for the most part the Mate 40 won’t look too drastically different from the Mate 30 lineup.
As for the hardware specs, this is where we’re a bit uncertain. Due to Huawei being placed on the US Entity List, it means that Huawei cannot do business with US companies and even foreign companies that rely on US technology, such as TSMC who helps Huawei make their Kirin chipsets.
There are a lot of question marks at this point in time, so we’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out. That being said, despite all these restrictions, Huawei seems to be doing pretty well as they have managed to overtake Samsung as the biggest smartphone manufacturer to date.
