Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 brings back the best smartwatch feature

Ladies and gentlemen, the rotating bezel is back! The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has just been unveiled, bringing back the best feature that Samsung removed from its previous generation smartwatches.

This hardware feature change means that the new watches look like the ones from two years ago, but Samsung has made significant changes to the hardware that has allowed them to cram in a larger display while reducing the footprint of the smartwatch. Available in stainless steel and aluminum, the Galaxy Watch 3 is 8% smaller than the previous model and 14% thinner while featuring a 1.4-inch display.

The watch also has a bigger battery for two days of continuous use. Those who wan the watch for tracking their workouts will not have the option for the watch to automatically track 7 different workouts without even doing anything with dozens of other workout activities available for tracking as well. The watch also supports voice activation for different workouts, allowing you to simply say “track my pull-ups” or “track my swim” and the watch will launch tracking for the specific workout you designate.

In addition to these workout tracking capabilities, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 also has a slew of new health-tracking capabilities. It will be able to track your sleep (with a partnership with the National Sleep Foundation), stress levels, VO2 Max for cardio fitness measurement and even ECG and blood pressure tracking to monitor your overall health. That last feature will be launching initially in South Korea with US availability coming one FDA approval is grandest in the US.

The watch will also be great for elderly family members wit hits new fall detection feature that will notify designated emergency contacts if the watch detects that its wearer has stumbled or fallen to the ground. This feature is also helpful for those who run or cycle, notifying a family member if you fall while you’re out on a workout.

A standard and LTE variant of the Galaxy Watch 3 will be available, both with NCF capabilities for Samsung Pay support. The LTE variant will also be able to make calls, send text messages and make payments without needing to be connected to a phone.

Samsung will start selling the Galaxy Watch 3 on August 6th, starting at $399 for the base model and $449 if you’re looking for LTE connectivity.
