ZTE will launch a phone with an under-display camera next month

Right now, smartphones either come with notches, hole-punch camera cutouts, or popup cameras to help workaround the current smartphone design trend of edge-to-edge displays. Neither of these solutions are ideal, but for the most part, they work, but ideally having a camera under the display itself would be the best.

It looks like ZTE could actually be the first to the market as the company has teased what they claim will be the world’s first smartphone that will sport an under-display front-facing camera. This smartphone will be announced on the 1st of September so remember to check back with us next month for the details.

We should also point out that ZTE is not the first company to explore this technology. Other companies have revealed that they too are working on such devices. This includes the likes of Samsung, Oppo, and Xiaomi. It was suggested by some of these companies that there are certain technological hurdles that need to be overcome for this to work.

The issue is that because the sensor is placed under the display, it could result in some distorted images or images that don’t have the right colors. We’re not sure how ZTE managed to work it out, so we’ll have to wait and see what kind of image quality we can expect from this new smartphone.

Hopefully, this is also a sign that companies are getting close to perfecting the tech, so it could also be indication that we can look forward to other companies releasing similar devices in the near future.
