It’s been about a month and a half since Google finally revealed the Pixel 4a, but it turned out to not be the true successor to the Pixel 4. Instead, this is a budget-minded device, priced at just $350 but is currently impossible to find in stock anywhere. That is, unless you constantly refresh Best Buy or Amazon’s landing pages. If not, you may end up having to wait until October before being able to get your hands on the 4a.
That brings us to the Pixel 5, supposedly, the true successor to the Pixel 4 lineup, albeit with some pretty big changes rumored for the device. The specs for the next Google flagship have provided us with a bit of insight, showing that the Pixel 5 will rival the OnePlus Nord, and not the OnePlus 8 or 8 Plus.
It’s likely that the Pixel 5 will sport a 6-inch display, along with the fantastic 90Hz refresh rate. This will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor, and likely coupled with at least 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. But the biggest jump is that there will finally be a Google device capable of taking advantage of 5G.
Earlier today, Google began sending out invitations for a virtual unveiling of not only some new Pixel phones but much more. According to the invite, we’ll be seeing a brand new Chromecast, an updated smart speaker, and the aforementioned phones. It’s been a while since both the Chromecast and Nest speakers have been updated (outside of a re-branding), so it will be interesting to see what’s to come from Google.
It’s extremely likely that Google will be providing more information on the speaker that was leaked, and then confirmed, back in July. After that confirmation, there has not been much in the way of what the updated speaker will be able to provide, but it’s expected to be the successor to the standard Google Home speaker.
The event will take place on September 30th at 2 PM EST.
