Samsung’s Exynos 2100 could be the best Android processor of the year

A new year means new processors, and Qualcomm got a little bit of a headstart with the introduction of the Snapdragon 888 back in December. However, with the Galaxy S21 unveiling slated to take place in just two days, Samsung announced its latest chipset with the Exynos 2100.

This is a flagship-level processor built on the same 5nm process as the aforementioned SD888 and Apple’s new A14 Bionic. Why does the 5nm process matter so much? Well, these new processors are intended to provide more efficient power usage, while providing a slight performance boost compared to chipsets built using the older 7nm process.

Along with being more power-efficient, the Exynos 2100 also has an integrated 5G modem with support for both sub-6GHz and mmwave. Samsung claims that the sub-6GHz speeds will top out around 5.1Gbps and 7.35Gbps for mmwave.

The fun doesn’t stop there, as there are new enhancements and support when it comes to potential cameras. The 2100 provides support for up to 200MP sensors, along with 8K/30fps recording, 8K/60fps playback, and even 4K/120fps recording. Samsung states that with the 2100, devices will be able to use up to six cameras while processing data from four of those sensors at the same time.

The Samsung Exynos 2100 is already in “mass production”, which means we will likely see it in certain variants of the upcoming Galaxy S21 lineup. Of course, the devices launching in the US will receive the Snapdragon 888, with Europe and other regions seeing the Exynos 2100.

After seeing such lack-luster performance from the previous-generation Exynos processor, it will be interesting to see how much better the 2100 compares to older devices.
