Some of you might recall that it came as a bit of a surprise when OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, announced that he would be leaving the company he had helped co-found. It was a surprise since Pei, just months earlier, had unveiled the OnePlus Nord and there was no indication that he had planned to leave.
Pei later explained that he felt that he had a lot of creativity left in him and decided to leave to do his own thing. Well, now we know what that is, and it is Nothing. No, we don’t mean that literally, but rather Nothing is a new company that Pei has just announced. The company will be based out of London and will focus on “consumer technology”. According to Pei:
“Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future. We believe that the best technology is beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use. When sufficiently advanced, it should fade into the background and feel like nothing.”

It is a bit vague and we have no idea what kind of products Nothing will be launching, but they are expected to be “smart devices”. Whether it be smart home products, a new smartphone, new wearables, we’ll just have to wait and see. Pei did confirm to The Verge that the company will be focusing more on hardware than software, at least for the for now.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what Nothing has to offer. The company will be launching their first products in the first half of 2021, so we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
