Unlike Samsung who has been more than eager to flood the market with their foldable phones, Huawei has been taking a somewhat conservative approach. The company has only one foldable phone under its belt at the moment, but that will change on the 22nd of February.
This is when the company will be officially announcing its next foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate X2, and they have continued to tease the launch on its Weibo page. Unlike the original Mate X, the X2 will feature a display that folds inwards, similar in the veins of the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2.
For those who forgot, the Huawei Mate X attempted to try something different by putting the foldable part of the display on the outside of the phone. It was an interesting choice, but it didn’t really offer much protection, especially when you consider the phone was priced over $2,000.
In terms of specs, the rumors are claiming that the handset will most likely be powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 9000 chipset. Its display is also said to measure 8.01-inches when unfolded, and on the inside, there will be a secondary display measuring 6.45-inches. It will also reportedly pack a quad camera setup consisting of 50MP + 16MP + 12MP + 8MP sensors.
Oddly enough, it will only come with a 4,400mAh battery which is kind of small considering how many displays it will be powering. We should have more details next week so check back with us then for the updates.
