OxygenOS 11 Open Beta arrives for the OnePlus 8T

Although the OnePlus 8T was released with Android 11 in-tow, the company had yet to begin its ‘Open Beta’ program for its latest device. It seems that OnePlus has been struggling with Android 11 updates, as evidenced by the need to pause the staged rollout of the final OxygenOS 11 build for the OnePlus Nord. However, the first Open Beta has been released for OnePlus 8T owners, bringing with it the update to the February 2021 Android Security Patch, along with a slew of optimizations.

This update is available to all versions of the OnePlus 8T, including the global variant and India-only versions. Here’s a breakdown of the changes found in the first OxygenOS 11 Open Beta:

Official Changelog:

If you want to be on the bleeding edge of software updates from OnePlus, it’s not all that difficult to join the program. You’ll simply need to download the correct ZIP package from OnePlus, and then head into the Settings app. From there, you’ll want to select the Local Upgrade option, at which point your device will locate the ZIP and flash it to your OnePlus 8T.

OnePlus recommends that in order to download the Open Beta software, you must have at least 3GB of available storage space and that your phone is charged up to at least 30%. You will more than likely encounter some bugs in the software, but that’s to be expected from beta versions of the software. Before proceeding with flashing the Open Beta, we would recommend performing a backup of your files and data. Flashing the beta does not wipe your phone, but there’s always a chance that you’ll need to either revert back to the stable version, or perform a system wipe in order to get rid of any pesky bugs.
