About a week ago, it was reported that thanks to the discovery of a patent, it was suggested that it was more than likely that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 would support the S Pen. Unfortunately, new details have emerged from Korea in which it suggests that while S Pen support is more than likely, it will not come in the way we were hoping for.
The report claims that Samsung had initially tried to design the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with space for an S Pen slot, similar to that of the Galaxy Note series. Unfortunately, due to a lack of space as well as potential issues that might arise with dust and water resistance, the company was unable to make room for the S Pen.
What this means is that while the phone will support the S Pen, it will not come with a dedicated slot and you will have to bring it with you separately. It is possible that Samsung could sell cases that comes with a slot for the S Pen, but it means that it’s an additional accessory you’ll have to buy.
Note that the Galaxy S21 series, the first non-Galaxy Note phone to support the S Pen, faced similar issues. We would have thought that Samsung would have figured something out by now, but it seems there is a chance we’ll end up disappointed.
