Outside of Xiaomi’s Mi Mix Fold and Huawei’s Mate X2, the foldable market has been rather quiet ever since the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 last year. However, if a new report is to be believed, that all could change in August as Samsung is gearing up to launch two new foldables and a successor to a fan favorite.
The report claims that Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy S21 FE at an Unpacked event in August. Traditionally, this is the same time frame that Samsung would be launching the latest offering in the Galaxy Note lineup, but the company has already confirmed that we won’t be seeing a Galaxy Note device in 2021.
Truth be told, it’s a bit odd that Samsung is launching all three devices at the same time, considering the release schedule for the previous launches. The Galaxy S20 FE wasn’t released until October of last year, while the Z Fold 2 came out in September, and the Z Flip 2 was announced in February of last year. Then, the Z Flip 5G arrived in July, giving Samsung a new and interesting device on an almost-monthly basis over the course of last year.
It makes sense that we are seeing Samsung attempt to consolidate the release of similar products, like the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. There’s still plenty of speculation that Samsung could be looking to replace the Note lineup altogether with the Z Fold / Z Flip, as other rumors claim that the devices will feature S Pen support. Samsung claims that the reason for the Note lineup being “postponed” is due to the ongoing chip shortage just seems like a diversion considering plans to move forward with other options like the S21 FE.
Nevertheless, August is shaping up to be rather exciting, and we can’t wait to see what’s to come from Samsung’s next flagship foldable smartphone lineup.
