If you thought there were a lot of smartphones released over the course of the year, then don’t look at the headphone market. Seemingly on a daily basis, we are seeing new options released with different features, and we could be close to the launch of another set.
Sony’s WF-1000XM3 headphones were launched back in 2019, and are currently seeing some deep discounts from all of the major retailers. Usually, this is enough to suggest that a successor is on the way, and thanks to WinFuture’s Roland Quandt, we’re getting our first high-resolution look at the potential WF-1000XM4 headphones.

The leaked renders show off the truly wireless earbuds from every angle, including a much smaller case and a redesign to the earbuds themselves. Instead of bringing back the chunky and huge design from the last generation, the WF-1000XM4 looks to be quite a bit smaller featuring a more traditional earbud design. These renders also show off the two color options that are likely to be available, a plain black version and a beige option.
Previous rumors have suggested that Sony will be adding faster-wired charging and Hi-Res audio support to the WF-1000XM4, but that’s all we know at the moment. Sony has not indicated as to when these earbuds could be released, but considering that these have already passed through the FCC, we could see a launch as early as June. Considering the fact that these high-resolution renders have appeared, also adds some more firepower to the rumor of a June release.
The Sony WF-1000XM3 are definitely some of the best truly wireless earbud, especially for those who want Active Noise Cancellation. It will be interesting to see how the WF-1000XM4 stack up to Apple’s AirPods Pro, Amazon’s upcoming Echo Buds 2, and the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. It’s a great time to be a fan of truly wireless earbuds, that’s for sure.
