Leaked renders of Google’s Pixel 6 suggest a pretty radical change in design to the company’s upcoming flagship handset, but it seems that this redesign might not be the most exciting Pixel phone of 2021. According to 9to5Google, they have dug deep into the recently released Android 12 beta and found references made to a possible foldable Pixel phone.
The phone in question has been codenamed “Passport” and according to the publication, the Android 12 beta references the model number – GPQ72. To be fair, there is no guarantee that this phone will be made or even launched this year, but it should be noted that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this.
Earlier this year, leakster Jon Prosser made a bold claim by saying that the foldable Pixel phone is real and that we might see it either late 2021 or early 2022. There have also been other reports claiming that Samsung could be the one to provide the tech behind the foldable display.
Google’s interest in foldable phones actually dates back a few years ago where the company announced as early as 2018 that Android would be supporting foldable devices, which at that time seemed a bit odd as Samsung was the only company then that was working on such phones. There have also been patents found that hint at Google’s interest, although the references in Android 12 are probably our most “real” clue that this device could happen.
