Arguably one of the most popular phones of 2020 wasn’t the Galaxy S20 Ultra or even the Pixel 5. It was the Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition), and we’ve been waiting to see if Samsung will capitalize on the success of last year’s model with an FE edition of the Galaxy S21.
There have been plenty of rumors and speculation as to when or if the Galaxy S21 FE would be coming, but thanks to Geekbench, we know that Samsung’s at least working on it. The Geekbench listing (via SamMobile) reveals that the S21 FE sports a model number of SM-G990B and is powered by the same Snapdragon 888 SoC as every other flagship phone in 2021.
The Geekbench listing also confirms that the S21 FE will have a bit of downgrade in the RAM department, as it will have just 6GB. There’s no telling whether there will be different models available with different configurations, but it’s safe to assume these Geekbench results are for the base model.
Geekbench also revealed the device to be running Android 11, which suggests that it could be coming sooner rather than later. With Android 12 not slated to hit the Pixel lineup in an official capacity until the Fall, Samsung is going to go with Android 11 until it finishes the development of One UI 4.0 based on Android 12. But on the bright side, the S21 FE will get up to three years of major OS updates, so it’ll keep chugging along until Android 14 at the least.
