Huawei plans to launch a new smartwatch with Harmony OS next week

It’s no secret that Huawei has had a rough go of it over the past year or so, after being banned from using Google’s apps and services on its devices. Since then, the company has been forced to pivot, creating its own operating system that will be used on more than just smartphones.

On June 2nd, Huawei has confirmed (via Android Authority) that it will officially introduce Harmony OS to the world, while also confirming that the Huawei Watch 3 will be unveiled. The Watch 3 will make use of Harmony OS, and marks the company’s first smartwatch of its kind. Previous Huawei wearables ran Lite OS, but the move to Harmony OS will bring a fluid experience across all of Huawei’s variety of smartphone and smartwatch products.

As for what we can expect to see from the Watch 3 in terms of specs, there’s not too much that is known just yet. Rumors suggest that it will feature eSIM support, along with long-lasting battery life, which doesn’t seem like a combination that goes hand-in-hand considering the battery drain suffered by standalone eSIMs on wearables.

It would come as no surprise if the Huawei Watch 3 featured a round display with a potential rotating bezel, similar to that of the Galaxy Watch 3. There are likely to be two different sizes, with options to choose between 42mm or 46mm, along with watch straps for working out or leather ones for a more professional look.

Considering that the start of June is just next week, we’re expecting to see a few more leaks ahead of the launch of both Harmony OS and Huawei’s new Watch 3. Let us know what you think about the new software and hardware expected to arrive, and if you think it’ll be a formidable opponent to Android.
