Sony’s WF-1000XM4 rumored to feature IPX4 rating and up to 24 hours of battery life

The Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds have remained some of the best headphones for those who want a great ANC experience, but they are coming up on two years old now. Rumors have been ramping up suggesting that we are nearing the launch of the Sony WF-1000XM4 and now Roland Quandt of WinFuture has revealed even more information.

One of the staple features of the WF-1000XM3s came in the active noise cancellation department, as these rivaled the likes of the AirPods Pro and even the newer Galaxy Buds Pro. However, the latest rumors suggest that Sony will be integrating a new processor called the Sony V1, which promises “even better performance” when it comes to noise cancellation. Quandt also states that the battery will last for up to 24 hours even with ANC enabled, with eight hours of juice on a single charge, and the included charging case providing the additional 16 hours of battery. Meanwhile, if you turn off ANC, the WF-1000XM4s are said to be able to last for up to 12 hours on a single charge and up to 36 hours with the battery case.

Those who have been waiting for some new workout earbuds will be happy to know that the WF-1000XM4s will sport an IPX4 splash-resistant rating. This means they will be just fine if you find yourself working out during the Summer and end up getting caught in a rainstorm.

One of the other key features is the addition of Qi wireless charging with the included case, or you can opt for the traditional wired USB-C charging if you see fit. Quandt states that these new headphones will “soon go on sale in Europe”, while being priced at €279.90. It’s important to note that the pricing may end up being $279.99 here in the U.S., although it wouldn’t surprise us to see these new earbuds arrive around the $250 price point or lower.
