Just yesterday, Samsung announced its latest tablet due to arrive sometime in June with the Galaxy Tab S7 FE. Today, we’ve learned more information about the company’s next “flagship” series of tablets in the Galaxy Tab S8. Plenty of details have been revealed, showing that Samsung is looking to take the tablet battle to Apple for another year.
Unlike years past, it seems that Samsung will be releasing three tablets under the Galaxy Tab S8 moniker, starting with the standard Galaxy Tab S8, codenamed Basquait1. This 11-inch tablet will sport a TFT 120Hz display with 8GB of RAM along with either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Battery life should be pretty impressive, as the Tab S8 will sport an 8,000mAh cell with 45W quick charging capabilities.
Next up, the Galaxy Tab S8+, codenamed Basquait2, will sport a larger 12.4-inch display while making the move to an OLED panel. The 120Hz refresh rate will be available on this model as well, along with a massive 10,090mAh battery. 45W quick charging speeds will be in-tow, providing all the speed you need to get your battery back up when you need to. It will feature the same “next-gen processor” as the Galaxy Tab S8, including the same 8GB of RAM and storage options. It’s also said to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, as opposed to one integrated into the power button.
Rounding out the pack will be Basquait3, which could launch with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra name. But unlike other “ultra” devices, this one is well-deserving of the title with its 14.6-inch OLED display. Samsung’s also said to include 120Hz refresh rates on this model, which wouldn’t come as surprise considering that the standard Tab S8 and Tab S8+ would also be equipped with this. Along with using the same processor as the other two models, the Tab S8 Ultra would see a spec-bump in terms of RAM and storage. Configurations of 8GB or 12GB of RAM coupled with either 128GB or 512GB of storage will be available.
As for what all three tablets will have in common, Samsung will continue bundling the updated S Pen with its tablets. This is just one way that the company attempts to undercut Apple’s iPad Pro series which still requires an additional purchase of the Apple Pencil if you want a stylus. By including the S Pen, Samsung is giving users the option from the get-go as to whether they want to end up using the stylus or not without digging deeper into your wallet.
All three tablets will sport a series of four speakers, likely tuned with Dolby Audio, along with an 8MP selfie camera, and a dual-camera setup on the back. This will consist of a 13MP primary lens and a secondary 5MP sensor, along with an LED flash. The Galaxy S8 Ultra is said to add another 5MP ultrawide camera to accompany the 8MP primary camera to help make video calls better.
Since it’s clear that Samsung is aiming to help improve productivity, an all-new keyboard case will be available. With it, you’ll be able to use your Galaxy Tab S8 at a variety of angles, regardless of what you’re actually doing on the tablet. Throw in the fact that you’ll be able to choose either Wi-Fi, LTE, or 5G connectivity, and the Galaxy Tab S8 could become the perfect on-the-go device to get work done.
Finally, we have more information about the pricing. The base-model Galaxy Tab S8 is said to be priced at around $740, the Tab S8+ will come in at $1,120, and the Tab S8 Ultra will start at $1,320. These have been converted from Korean Won, so it’s extremely likely that the U.S. pricing will be a tad different.
