Twitter Verification Requests are open again, here’s how to apply

Twitter Verification is back… again.

After flipping the switch on and off again last month, Twitter is now accepting new verification requests through its app and website for those who are interested in getting the little blue checkmark featured next to their profile name.

On the official Twitter Verification help page, the company states that applications should be processed within a few weeks. If the system gets overwhelmed again with new applications and Twitter is no longer able to maintain the same processing schedule, the application submission process will be halted until manual processing is able to catch up with the backlog.

In other words, if the Twitter Verification Request option isn’t showing up in your account settings, check back in a few days.

What is Twitter Verification?

Twitter states that “verification is part of our commitment to serve the public conversation by helping inform people of the authenticity of accounts with high public interest.” In simple terms, it’s a little blue checkmark featured next to a Twitter user’s profile name to help users identify and ensure that the user’s identity has been verified by Twitter. Twitter Verification is not an endorsement of the user by Twitter and does not guarantee that the information shared by the account can be trusted at all times. 

Are you eligible for Twitter Verification?

According to Twitter’s account Verification page, only those who have accounts that are “notable, authentic, and active” are eligible for account verification. Twitter has also designated six different account types that are currently accepted for account verification. 

1. Government
2. Companies, brands and non-profit organization
3. News organizations and journalists
4. Entertainment
5. Sports and esports
6. Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals

If your Twitter account happens to fall under one of those categories, your account should be verified once you submit your Twitter Verification application by following the instruction below.

Twitter Verification Application Process

The Twitter Verification application can be submitted through Twitter.com or through the official Twitter App on your smartphone or tablet. Regardless of which method you choose, the steps are the same.

1. Log into your Twitter account on the browser or the official Twitter apps
2. Click on the […] icon.
3. Tap Settings and privacy
4. Tap Account and scroll down and tap Verification Request
5. Tap Start Request
6. Follow the Twitter Verification instructions based on your Twitter account category

How long will the Twitter Verification process take?

Since all Twitter Verification applications are handled by real people, your application can take up to a few weeks to process. After opening the Twitter Verification system up again to new applicants in late May of 2021, Twitter stopped accepting new applications after a few days after it was inundated with millions of requests.

If Twitter accepts your verification application, you will be notified by email. Applicants who are rejected are eligible to reapply for Twitter Verification every 30 days.
