One of the first things Apple announced today at WWDC today is a new FaceTime Links feature that finally brings Android and Windows devices into the fold, allowing them to participate in FaceTime video calls.
We are still waiting for Apple to reveal more details, but from what we can gather, FaceTime Links will allow Apple device users to create FaceTime Link and share them with anyone they want to have a FaceTime video call with. Just like Zoom video call,s the FaceTime Link will allow anyone to join the video call, without needing to install a dedicated application – Android and Windows users as well. Clicking on the link will open the web browser, allowing you to join in on a video call without any hassle.
This limited functionality will not allow Android or Windows users to initiate FaceTime calls from their devices, but it’s a first step that we honestly thought Apple would never take. FaceTime is one of the easiest apps to initiate video calls, but it’s always limited who Apple users can call simply because it was limited exclusively to Apple products. Adding this new FaceTime Links feature will expand FaceTime’s reach to billions of more devices and could be a simple way to explore Android users to Apple’s ecosystem.
Let us know your thought on FaceTime Links. Do you think Apple will ever give Android users a full version of FaceTime on Android?
