There are many reasons why you would buy a phone from a carrier instead of outright. This is because if you have a phone, you’re going to need a plan, and more often than not, carriers tend to sell phones and plans together and offer you a more affordable way of obtaining them through monthly installments.
This is a perfectly fine setup, but the downside is that if you wanted to swap out the SIM card from your phone to that of a different carrier, you might find that impossible as the SIM card on the phone has been locked to your carrier. The good news is that this lock isn’t permanent and below we’re going to show you a couple of different ways that you can unlock the Samsung Galaxy A52’s SIM card either for free or through third-party service.
Getting the unlock code from your carrier for free
If you’d rather not pay to unlock your phone’s SIM, then this method is a free method where you can actually get the SIM unlock code from your carrier. There will be some requirements that you’ll have to meet first which includes:
- First of all, the device needs to have been paid off in full, meaning that if you’re on an installment/repayment plan, you’ll need to make sure that the phone has been fully paid for.
- Secondly, you will also need to ensure that you must have owned your device for at least 60-90 days.
- Thirdly, you will also need to be in good standing with your carrier. This usually means that you do not have any bills that are unpaid or overdue. If you do, you’ll have to pay them off first.
Assuming you meet those requirements, then here’s what you need to do next:
- On your Galaxy A52 handset, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to display your phone’s IMEI number
- Write the IMEI number down somewhere where you can refer to it easily
- Call your carrier’s customer service hotline and request for your SIM unlock code
- You will then be asked to provide the service rep with your Galaxy A52’s IMEI number
- If you meet all the requirements that we mentioned above, the SIM unlock code will be sent to the email address you provided in the next 2-5 days.
- Once you’ve received your code, you can then feel free to swap out the SIM with a SIM from another carrier
- Enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email when the prompt comes up and you’re good to go
Getting the unlock code from a paid third-party service
If you do not meet the requirements to get a free SIM unlock from your carrier, don’t worry. This is because if you don’t mind paying a small fee, there are services like Android SIM Unlock that will unlock the phone’s SIM for you.
- On your Galaxy A52 handset, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to display your phone’s IMEI number
- Write the IMEI number down somewhere where you can refer to it easily
- Go to Android SIM Unlock’s website
- Enter the device’s IMEI number
- Complete the checkout process with your payment and contact information
- Once that’s all settled and done, you should then receive the Galaxy A52’s unlock code either through SMS or email
- The moment you’ve received your code, you can then swap out the SIM on your phone with a SIM from another carrier
- You should be prompted to enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email, and once you’ve done that, you should be good to go
Once you’ve completed all the steps mentioned above, your Samsung Galaxy A52 should now be unlocked and you will not have any issues with swapping between carriers or SIM cards.
This will be very useful because if you do travel overseas, more often than not it is cheaper to buy a local SIM than use data roaming on your phone, and a SIM-unlocked phone will help you do that. Even if you don’t travel, having the freedom of swapping around SIM cards or carriers is not a bad thing.
Do note that unlocking your phone’s SIM does not free you from the contract that you signed with your carrier. If you use a third-party service, this only unlocks the SIM on your phone and you’re still obligated to continue paying for the phone and the services you use.
